We’re a hard-working team, and a real cross-section of the community, each learning a bit more about baking every day. There are veteran team-members and newer recruits, dads and daughters, mums and sons. And from our rhubarb crumbles in January to our Christmas mince pies, we take pride in everything we put our name to, all year round.

There’s a long tradition at Birds of learning on the job. And every year we advertise for apprentices to work in our bakery and confectionery section. We have also recruited apprentices for maintenance roles in the past.

Successful applicants are usually over 18 (due to the need to use certain equipment), but we especially welcome applications from older people, with other job experience.
